Everything You Need to Know Before You Build
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes — we offer free on-site consultations in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. We’ll walk the property, discuss your goals, and give you a detailed quote with no obligation.
Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. Black Iron Timber Co. is fully licensed and insured in Pennsylvania. We take safety, liability, and legal compliance seriously — for your peace of mind and ours.
How far do you travel for jobs?
We currently serve residential clients in Bucks County and Montgomery County. If you’re nearby and not sure if you’re in our range, just contact us — we’re happy to confirm.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept most major payment methods including checks, credit cards, and electronic transfers. Payment plans or phased payments are available depending on project size.
FENCING QUESTIONS
What type of fence is best for privacy?
Board-on-board wood fences and horizontal slat fences offer excellent privacy. We also offer mixed material fences (wood + metal) for a modern, private solution that lasts.
How long does a fence installation take?
Most fencing projects take 2–4 days, depending on length, terrain, materials, and weather. We’ll give you a clear timeline during your quote.
Do I need a permit to install a fence?
Most townships in Bucks and Montgomery Counties do require a permit for new fencing. We’ll guide you through the process and provide drawings/specs if needed. You can also view permit info by township here.
Can you match or extend an existing fence?
Yes — if your current fence is in good condition, we can match materials and style to maintain consistency. We’ll evaluate on-site and make sure it blends properly.
What’s the most durable fencing material?
Pressure-treated lumber, when properly sealed and maintained, lasts 15+ years. Mixed material fences (timber + steel or aluminum) offer additional strength and low maintenance.
DECK QUESTIONS
How much does a custom deck cost?
Deck projects typically start around $8,000 and can go up to $25,000+ depending on size, layout, material, and features like pergolas or lighting. We’ll break it all down in your quote — no guesswork.
What’s the best material for my deck?
For a natural look and feel, timber (pressure-treated or cedar) is ideal. If low maintenance is your priority, we can discuss composite alternatives, though our specialty is premium woodwork.
Do you offer deck repairs or upgrades?
Yes — we offer deck resurfacing, board and railing replacement, refinishing, and structural repairs. We’ll inspect your current deck and let you know what’s salvageable.
Do I need a permit for a new deck?
In most cases, yes — especially for elevated decks, larger builds, or anything that attaches to your home. We assist with permit drawings, zoning requirements, and township paperwork.
How long does it take to build a deck?
Most decks take 1–2 weeks depending on size, design, and weather. We’ll give you an exact timeline before we begin — and stick to it.
PROJECT & PROCESS QUESTIONS
How soon can you start my project?
We typically book 3–6 weeks out, depending on the season. Once you approve your quote, we lock in your start date and reserve your materials.
How many projects do you run at once?
Only one. Yours.
Black Iron Timber Co. believes in quality over quantity — we focus on one job at a time to ensure every client gets our full attention.
What’s your clean-up policy?
We leave the job site clean every day, not just at the end. That means materials organized, walkways clear, and tools stored safely — because we respect your property.
Do you work with HOAs?
Yes. We provide specs, renderings, and can help you navigate your HOA’s requirements so you get approval with minimal hassle.
What happens if the weather delays construction?
We monitor the weather daily and plan accordingly. If there’s a delay, we’ll communicate clearly and adjust your schedule — without compromising quality or rushing the job.
DESIGN & PLANNING QUESTIONS
Can you help with design ideas?
Absolutely. During our consultation, we’ll talk through your style preferences, functional needs, and how you use the space — then suggest designs, layouts, and materials that fit.
Do you provide drawings or visual plans?
Yes — for complex builds or HOA/township requirements, we’ll provide sketches or visual mockups as needed.
Can I add features later, like lighting or pergolas?
You can — and we can even plan for future upgrades in our initial design so your deck or fence is ready when you are.
CONTRACT, WARRANTY & FOLLOW-UP
What’s included in my quote?
Your quote includes materials, labor, cleanup, and all known project costs. If something changes (like site conditions or materials), we’ll discuss it with you before any work begins.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Most of our projects include a limited workmanship warranty, plus any manufacturer warranties on materials. We’ll review all terms with you before starting.
What if something breaks after the project is done?
Reach out — we stand by our work. If it’s covered under warranty, we’ll fix it. If it’s something else, we’ll give you an honest assessment and fair repair quote.
Still Have Questions?
We’re always happy to help — even if you’re just exploring ideas.
